Cities Alliance is seeking an In-Country Coordinator based in Kampala, Uganda. The successful candidate will support the implementation of its activities in Uganda, Sudan, the DRC, and possibly South Sudan.

Currently, Cities Alliance is implementing its Global Programme on Cities and Migration, providing financial and technical assistance to local stakeholders in low-income countries to improve migration management, including the SUIDAC programme. Activities are underway in several cities of Uganda (Arua and Koboko), Sudan (Atbara) and DRC (Kananga and Tshikapa), with the possibility of expanding to additional cities in DRC and South Sudan, depending on the organisation's portfolio.

The In-Country Coordinator will play a crucial role in strengthening urban planning and migration management in secondary cities, contributing to sustainable solutions for displacement-affected communities and ensuring alignment with Cities Alliance priorities.

Key responsibilities:

Working under the supervision of the SUIDAC Programme Coordinator, the In-Country Coordinator will lead and support Cities Alliance work in the region, contributing to the development, management and implementation of strategies to strengthen the organisation's competencies and position in Uganda, Sudan, DRC, South Sudan and more broadly the Horn of Africa.

  • Support implementation of Cities Alliance's regional portfolio in alignment with local, national, and regional agendas, in close coordination with the SUIDAC Programme Coordinator and Urban Specialist in Kampala.

  • Assess stakeholder needs to identify opportunities for leveraging Cities Alliance activities and build strategic partnerships through advocacy, communications and networking to engage new partners.

  • Participate in key events and forums and engage with current and potential donors, UNOPS, and the broader UN system.

  • Support the supervision of Cities Alliance staff and foster an inclusive and accountable work environment.

  • Contribute to innovative activities and the dissemination and sharing of best practices and lessons.

Requirements:

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent), preferably in migration studies, urban development, urban planning, public policy and administration or related field, is required.

  • A first-level university Degree (Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent) with an additional 2 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a master's degree.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated expertise in migration and urban development in the East African region and/or the DRC is required.

  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French is an asset.

Contract:

  • Individual Contractor Agreement (IICA 2/ ICS 10)

  • Ongoing contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance, availability of funds and continued business needs.
