Uganda Performing Right Society (UPRS) is a not-for-profit Collective Management Organization (CMO) licensed by the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) under the Copyright Act of Uganda to represent Composers of musical works, Performers, producers, authors, publishers and performers of sound recordings respectively. UPRS is mandated to collect license fees from commercial users of music both public performance and broadcasting to distribute royalties to their respective rights holders.
Job Summary:
The Chief Executive Officer will direct and control UPRS’ operations and give strategies guidance to the Board to ensure that the company achieves its Mission and Goals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategy and Operations
- Develop and execute organizational strategies objectives with guidance from the Board.
- Formulate and implement the company strategic plan
- Monitor and maintain deep knowledge of the industry trends
- Mobilize, manage and ensure availability of resources to support company core activities.
- Assess and monitor the efficacy of UPRS strategies and targets to ensure revenue growth.
- Review financial and non-financial reports to inform strategy formulation for income generation.
- Make capital allocation and investment decisions
- Alignment of all operations and business activities with UPRS strategy and mission
- Effective communication with stake holders and key partners
- Conduct and attend stakeholder meetings to influence industry compliance
- Build industry trust and rapport with key business partners and stakeholders
- Prepare periodic/annual reports for Board and stakeholder engagements
- Management of overall operational costs
- Maintain quality service delivery to facilitate membership and partnership retention.
- Oversee the Organization’s information and knowledge dissemination strategies.
Supervisory
- Actively promote the wellness of UPRS employees and distinctive work environment that encourages employee engagement.
- Monitor staff performance toward the achievement of the company goals and mission.
- Develop periodic reports (performance and activity) for the Board of Directors and other key stakeholders.
- Effect optimal utility of human and other company resources.
- Identify and bridge knowledge gap through capacity building strategies.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
- A Master’s Degree in a relevant field would be an added advantage.
- Five years of experience in a senior management role, in a competitive environment.
- Excellent command of both spoken and written English.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills.
- Good listening and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
- Experience in managing of senior staff with a proven ability to mobilize and manage resources.
- A high level of business awareness and acumen.
- Strong crisis management and conflict mediation skills.
- Thorough understanding of sales, marketing and business development concepts and strategies.
- A person of integrity.
