Job Purpose: The successful applicant will serve as the Head of the Public Agricultural Research Institute (PARI) and will be responsible for providing professional, technical, and administrative leadership necessary for implementing the institute mandate.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the institute’s research programs in alignment with NARO’s national agricultural research agenda.

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and monitoring of research projects to ensure they meet national and institutional objectives.

  • Foster collaboration with national and international research institutions, universities, and development partners to enhance research outcomes.

  • Mobilize financial and technical resources to support research activities and institutional development.

  • Ensure the dissemination of research findings to stakeholders, including policymakers, farmers, and the private sector, to promote adoption of technologies.

  • Supervise and mentor research staff, promoting a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.

  • Manage the institute’s budget, assets, and infrastructure to ensure efficient and effective operations.

  • Represent the institute in high-level forums, meetings, and conferences to advocate for agricultural research and development.


Required Academic Qualifications and Experience:
a) Possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Sciences, Animal Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Laboratory Technology, Biotechnology, or related disciplines with a PhD in a relevant field of either of the above disciplines (for Job Ref. NARO/DOR/001).

b) Possess a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Sciences, Livestock Production, Fisheries Sciences, or Rural Development, and a PhD in the field of either Agriculture, Livestock Production, Fisheries, Forestry, Rural Development, or Natural Resources (for Job Ref. NARO/DOR/002).
c) At least 10 years’ experience in either agricultural research planning or management from an Agricultural Research Institution.
d) Equivalent experience obtained from a related institution is acceptable.
e) A proven record in research evidenced by at least twenty (20) peer-reviewed publications, with at least five publications in the last two years.
f) Demonstrated experience in mobilizing funding for research and development.
g) Must have served in a research, academic, or related reputable institution at a Principal Research/Management level or above.


Tenure of Office: Five years’ contract, renewable once subject to satisfactory performance.


Age Limit: Above 30 years for external applicants and not exceeding 60 years for internal applicants.
